License Plates of the World
By Michael Kustermann
What are License Plates?
A vehicle registration plate, also known as a number plate (British, Indian, and Australian English), or license plate (American English and Canadian English), is a metal or plastic plate attached to a motor vehicle or trailer for official identification purposes.
The country in which a motor vehicle's license plate was issued may be indicated by an international vehicle registration code, also called a Vehicle identification mark (VIM). A VIM is a code that is placed on a vehicle registration plate to indicate the country in which the vehicle is registered.
